We know that plant-based cleaning products can provide the efficacy you are looking for, and that products derived from plant-based ingredients are a safer, sustainable option.

To help you understand why we turn to plants, and how the ingredients derived from them effectively and safely work, we’ve asked the experts (our top tier chemists and product developers) to break it down for you!
Why does Boulder Clean choose plant-derived ingredients?
From environmental to health issues, there are a few major reasons why we choose to use plant-derived and mineral-based ingredients in our cleaning products.
As opposed to petroleum-based ingredients, plant-based ingredients are derived from a renewable resource, as opposed to limited resources.
Cleaners with plant-derived ingredients are generally safer for your home and health because they are not riddled with chemicals and toxins. Conventional cleaning products often contain allergens or irritants that can cause respiratory, sinus or skin irritation. We pride ourselves on creating products that are safe to use around every member of your family without fumes, residue, or “bad stuff.”
Plant-based cleaners are also biodegradable and low in volatile organic compounds (e.g. glycol esters, hydrocarbons), so they have a reduced impact on the environment and waste. They do not contain chemicals that cause significant air or water pollution and are often in recyclable or recycled packaging.
In addition, using eco-friendly ingredients means cruelty-free ingredients.
Are plant-derived ingredients really effective compared to traditional products?
As the industry has begun to utilize more plant-derived ingredients, the industry has created more ingredient options for product development teams. With greater selection of these plant-derived ingredients, they have been tested and combined to provide a performance equivalent to, and frequently, even better than conventional products.
How does Boulder Clean determine what ingredients to use and if they’re safe/effective?
Boulder Clean products use the EPAs Safer Choice program as our guidance for ingredient selection. The Safer Choice certification insures that the ingredients are safer for human health and the environment. All of our formulations are tested by a neutral third party for comparison against other green cleaning products, and nationally accepted product benchmarks. We formulate to ensure good cleaning performance in addition to Safer Choice certification.
